When we develop a website or web application, we make sure the entire process is hand-crafted to fit your specific needs. It’s what separates us from a lot of agencies out there. We don’t just buy a theme that does 1,000 different things and tweak it so it kinda, sorta does what it needs to do.
At the start, we sit down with our clients and get to know not only the needs and expectations the audience will have when they come to the website, but also how our clients will need to update or edit content. With this information, we choose the right platform for the project and then move ahead designing and developing custom themes and plugins so the website looks and functions great without extra overheard.
Sure, we’ll use existing plugins and code snippets to speed up common workflows, but we do all the work right here, in house, specifically for you. In fact all three of us are developers, in addition to the other hats we wear, which allows us to bounce ideas off each other or discuss the best way to solve a difficult problem. The question is never, “Can our website do this?” but instead it’s “What’s the best way to do this?”
If your website or web application doesn’t look right on a phone or tablet, you’re missing out on a huge potential audience. Almost 60 percent of Google searches now happen via mobile device (2016). That varies a fair bit by industry — people search for a restaurant on a mobile device a lot more often than they search and book travel arrangements, for instance — but you should expect a significant piece of first-time traffic to the site to arrive via mobile device. And that’s likely to only increase over time. What’s more, Google’s search engine rankings give preference to mobile friendly devices.
We build all of our sites following the principals of “responsive design,” which means your website reformats itself to look and function appropriately no matter the device it’s being viewed with — desktop, laptop, phone, tablet, or even your new smart ‘fridge. This isn’t an extra thing we provide. It’s just part of the web now, and we won’t build a site without it.
Who wants to visit a slow website? What’s worse, who wants to go to a heavy website that burns through your mobile data plan? People tend not to wait too long for a website to load on a phone (and remember how much traffic is mobile these days).
We build our websites to be as fast and lean as possible. With our hand-crafted approach to web development, your website isn’t a maze of bolted on plugins that allow it to be 1,000 different types of websites, or that is loading tons of code that never gets used.
Instead, it’s build specifically for you, which means we can get rid of anything you don’t need, making it run as lean and fast as possible. We make sure your sites automatically compress and resize images, and cache as much as possible to ensure great speed and performance. We’re not the only ones that love fast websites — search engines love them too!
It’s a common story we hear. Either someone comes to us and they can’t update their existing site themselves, or it’s such a pain that they never want to. They email edits to their developer, who hopefully has a break in their schedule to update that one line of text. Repeat this process enough times and the website will never get updated, and content will get out of date. Sounds awful, right? We think so, which is why we try to develop our websites to be as editable by our clients as possible.
We often develop custom admin and edit screens and workflows so you can update your website quickly — without having to worry about weird formatting steps you can never remember.
Of course, if you’d rather not edit your own site, that’s fine. We can set up a retainer agreement to provide prompt updates whenever you need them.
If you’d like, we also offer fast and affordable web hosting to all of our clients. Unlike a lot of hosts, when you host with us, we put your websites on their own high-speed server. You are never sharing resources with other websites, and you aren’t at risk if someone else’s website gets hacked. Included with our hosting are weekly backups of your website, server security updates, and website security updates to make sure your website stays safe. We monitor all our sites for “uptime,” meaning if your site ever goes down (it does happen; the Internet isn’t perfect!), we’ll get notified – and we’ll likely be working on it before you even realize it’s down.
